2003 Kopke Colheita (bottled 2022

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Kopke 2003 Colheita, bottled in 75cl in 2022. Purchased today from Ellis Wharton Wines at Indian Queens, Cornwall for £42. A wonderful polished redwood in colour, 70% opaque. A nose full of chestnut puree and lavender wood polish, suave and confident. Balanced palate, some hints of honey and that lovely roasted chestnut but with a little grapefruit oil flavouring the acidity. Sweet and thick in texture, yet very nicely balanced. A big aftertaste, some warm cinnamon drops leading to a long dark honey and pink grapefruit finish. Great length. A big and bold form of Port, sweet and honeyed yet with the acidity needed to keep the wine balanced. Superb Port to sip next to a wood fire. 91/100.  1 hour. 22-Mar-23
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
