A bottle drunk at Hawksmoor Air Street for dinner as part of their Monday Wine Club offer.
Fonseca 1927: Oh my! My, oh my! You know when something special is in your glass...
A deep red with a lovely bronze tone and a wide rim. Surprisingly closed on the nose, it shows some mature fruit, anise and spice but is remarkably restrained. So youthful on the palate, big bramble fruit, full of power and spice. The aftertaste is massive; menthol heat to the bramble leads to a huge spearmint finish. So young, so primary. How can Port this old be so young? How can a wine like this be scored on its potential in 50 years time? Delicious today (in a youthful way) and astonishing for the next generation. 99/100. Drunk 06-Mar-23. Decanted 11½ hours.
