Somewhat to my surprise, I haven’t tried this before.
Not a massive amount of sediment. Impressively deep opaque red in the centre, fading to orange at the edge.
On first trying with a couple of hours’ decanting, I wasn’t impressed. However, returning to the remains today, whilst the nose is rather distant it has good concentration of dark fruits—maybe black currants—& some muscovado sugar. On tasting, I get an immediate hit of sugar, followed by strong but rounded tannins and a slightly spicy mixture of dark cherries. There is some acidity present, too. The aftertaste is not bold but is very long.
I am surprised and pleased at how youthful this is. I’m going to try not to touch any of these for a while. I think this is one for the long haul.
