1948 Taylor

A Bordeaux bottle which had been rewaxed prior to purchase. No indication of shipper or vintage on the bottle. Careful opening of the bottle, peeling back the wax, revealed the bottle had been rewaxed over the top of a red foil. The top of the foil was embossed ""Taylor 1948 Port"". The branded cork confirmed the identity of the wine. There was no indication of who the shipper might have been.

A lovely deep red-chestnut colour, a polished conker. The nose is immensely complex, Rich and spiced, with mace and nutmeg over dried red fruit - complex and so inviting. On the palate, the wine delivers all that was promised by the nose. The balance is superb, dried citrus zest combines with dried cherry, a little honey, generous spice and a superb touch of acidity. The palate is stunning; complex and so demanding of attention - or perhaps not attention but just to be admired and wondered at. The awe and wonder continues after the wine slides down towards the stomach. The warmth spreads languidly through the body; the red cherry conserve and orange blossom honey dance in and out of range, teasing the red liquorice and aniseed that nature gave to compliment the fruit and spice. The finish goes on for so long! Certainly long enough to write a tasting note, which is usually over five minutes.

Taylor 1948 can be one of the greatest Vintage Ports ever drunk. This bottle ranks in that elite category; a wine like this makes a person so grateful to appreciate and be able to occasionally drink such wonderful grape juice. 98/100. Drunk 29-Sep-22. Decanted 2 hours.
