Medium garnet colour with vivid ruby highlights. Layered nose of dried red cherries, prunes, dried figs, hints of orange peel, damson jam and raisins. There is a beautiful array of spices, cinnamon and clove but also fennel seeds and aniseed, hint of smoke here and there, coffee beans and a certain minerality conveying a sense of terroir. On the palate it is smooth and silky with a spicy feel and menthol freshness. The sweetness is beautifully balanced by the acidity and a touch of bitterness brings everything together in harmony. The finish is long and elegant with the flavours persisting throughout. One to sip and savour, to enjoy the layered aromatics -a meditation wine!
Tasted half hour after decanting and also 8hours after decanting, this port showed consistency and shows a distinctive spicy character that remained unchanged. 95/100 points, Tasted 04/08/2022.
