1970 Warre

Post by winesecretary »

... Opened 26 hrs ago but tasting note only now written on retasting.

This bottle IN and the cork came out clean.

A full rich garnet on a little paling at rim.

Nose of violets and esteva and blackcurrant vitamin D gummies An added powdery note. Parma violets?

Smooth entry. Blackcurrant jam, cranberry, aniseed.

Long congruent finish. All finesse, no heat, a gentle warmth.

Slightly less ravishing than yesterday after a thirty minute decant however.

I have been enjoying this wine for 31 years. An argument could be made that it is towards the end of its plateau but equally I have been saying that for a decade and in truth I suspect it will still be excellent two decades hence albeit more fragile.

In the words of a classic tasting note on this site 'impossible to be overstocked'.
