2010 Graham Malvedos

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Malvedos 2010: the current release of Malvedos. This wine was supposed to be included in the Decanter World Wine Awards 2022 but was missed due to a logistics failure.

Deep red with a medium rim. Baked bramble on the nose, with green herbs giving good complexity. Modest entry, sweet fruit with black fruit gums and lots of bramble on the mid-palate. Not old enough to have developed a lot of complexity but a good mouthful of fruit with a touch of tannin and a good, fresh acidity. A lovely floral lavender overtone to the fruit comes through strongly but the aftertaste is a little unbalanced, dominated by the acidity and tannins until and the bramble and black chocolate comes back on the long finish. A nice wine which can be drunk and enjoyed today but which is likely to be significantly better if cellared for a decade or two. Today: 89/100. Decanted ½ hour. Tasted 24-Jul-22.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
