1987 Quinta do Noval Nacional

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Tasted at JDAW's Cellar Reduction Dinner on 16th February 2022.

Nice, rich and deep mature red; 60% opaque. Earthy fruit on the nose, cinder toffee and raspberry, sweet canned cherry, quite typical of the NN87. Rich earthy fruit flavours and powerful tannins. Sweet red cherry with dark chocolate and big acidity, all combining to deliver a big mouthful. Warm red bell pepper aftertaste showing a little heat, some dry dark chocolate tannins and big fruit. A long, long finish; this wine is still so young. 90/100.
drunk 16-Feb-22. Decanted 5 hours.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

55% opacity, dark red. String fig and tobacco nose. Full mouthfeel, farmyard, gentle heat, some exposed alcohol late on the palate. Not great.
