1970 Dow

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Tasted at JDAW's Cellar Reduction Dinner on 16th February 2022.

Deep red colour, appearing to be in early maturity; 70% opaque. Big youthful fruit on the nose, sweet and spiced. Smooth textured entry with sweet red fruit - so young but so delicious. Structure is provided by the acidity in the palate. The tannins are fully resolved showing only on the aftertaste. A lovely sweet redcurrant finish. An exquisite wine. My wine of the night. 93/100. drunk 16-Feb-22. Decanted 3½ hours.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

50% opacity, mature red. Full, powerful mouthfeel, dark red fruits waiting to get out. Needs more time!
