1963 Constantino
A lovely rich and mature red colour, still 50% opaque. Slightly muted on the nose, showing some sweet red and floral fruit - lovely, although a little faint. Mature on the palate, but still with some aspects of youth with fine fruit and soft tannins. Delicious lingering redcurrant and cranberry finish. A really lovely wine, younger seeming than most of the wines being tasted the evening, but still so well poised. Served blind this was guessed to be SW70. 91/100. 20-Jan-22. Decanted 4½ hours.
Top Ports in 2021: Niepoort Garrafeira 1931; Niepoort VV (1960s bottling) and Cockburn 1969 Single Harvest Tawny
Top Port in 2022 so far: the most stunning bottle of Quinta do Noval Nacional 1931. I have never drunk such a wonderful bottle of Port.
