1966 Kopke Colheita (bottled 2021)

Post by JacobH »

Part of the DIY Kopke Tawny + White Tasting.

Notes: Bottled 2021. Again, similar colour to the 1981 but deeper brown. No hint of green, yet. The nose is more prominent than the others from this tasting—some nuts come through—but still quite subtle and spirity. The mouth has a wonderful initial sweetness with a thick mouthfeel of caramel backed up by the smallest amount of lemony-acidity. The aftertaste is immensely long; not particularly tawny but dominated by the caramel. Wonderfully drinkable.

* A Note on Ratings

My rating system attempts to answer the question “is this a good Port?” one of three ways: N—No; P—Possibly; or C—Certainly. Ports generally are weighted slightly by their category. Therefore, a Ruby Port might receive a C rating for Certainly good which it might not were it to be a Vintage Port. I sometimes modify my rating with a plus or minus indicating that the Port is better or worse than might be expected for this category.
