2012 CARM LBV (bottled 2017)

ABV 20%

95% opaque red juice, really inky-dark.

P'n'decant'n'pour.

Plum and prune on the nose just at first, a bit reduced/muted. With more air, more classic blue fruit TN notes, and piney-fresh.

At first some black fruits to be found on the palate only by running it through the teeth. Spearmint appearing only later. With even more air, a nod back towards the early prune.

Whacking great acidity, throughout.

Fiery aguardiente used?

Really interesting wine. Distinctively different. Would be interesting to taste their other wines.

An LBV by CARM? That's the first I've heard of it. Had no idea they are/were in the Port business.

Bought in Funchal in January 2020 - partly because I had never seen a port from them.

Having checked their website, it appears to be the only port they have ever commercialised.

Ah. Interesting. That would explain it.

No colour change.

Very classic cool blue fruit TN nose.

Still quite warm on the palate. Some slightly acidic English strawberries appearing mid palate, then chocolate coated raisins on the finish; the high acidity remains obvious but not obtrusive.

This is not merely a wine of passing interest, I really rather like it. It appears to be 15E from their e-commerce site, which is not a lot of money for something this characterful.

I was wrong when I said they made no other port, they appear to have made a 2008 VP.
