Flip-flops, speedos, "wife-beater" vests, shell-suits, football shirts, etc are generally discouraged.

@Alex - could you possibly make our VIP guests aware?
Will do.

Would it be possible to add me as a reserve for this tasting. I am a big fan of Quevedo ports and this looks really interesting. Thanks.

Alex Bridgeman wrote: 10:16 Tue 04 Oct 2022 I have just been reminded that the corkage charge at 67 Pall Mall is £30 per bottle.

The closure pack contains 4 bottles.

Consequently, please don't everyone bring an "interesting" bottle. Doing so would mean (a) too many bottles and (b) a large bill @ £30 per bottle corkage. Please would each odd-even pair (eg. Tony and Charles, Ben and Wolfgang) agree between them who will bring a single bottle and an appropriate way to share the cost of the bottle brought.

That gives 10 bottles to be consumed on the night between 12 people. Anyone still thirsty can buy from the bar or the extremely impressive wine list.
@Nac - that's me and thee. Catch you at the TTF tasting to figure out.

Bertie - a space has just come available at the tasting. If you let me have your details by M I'll add you to the attendee list.

I've just seen the announcement of new rail strike action taking place on 13-14 December.

For the moment, I am assuming that this tasting will still happen. The strikes may be called off at short notice (again) or people might use other ways to get into London.

However, for the purposes of contingency planning, please let me know if you would need to drop out of the tasting if the rail strike goes ahead.

I am looking at options to drive to London and stay over, but need some time to see what is possible. If I can’t get there by car and the strike goes ahead I would have to drop out which would be most disappointing.

Have negotiated a significant reduction in the corkage charge, but suggest that we stay with the number of bottles as planned.

Also, assume we're going to want placemats, so do we need to now divulge what the "interesting" bottles are?

Even if strike goes ahead, would still be able to attend.

Hi,

quite honestly if the strike goes ahead I do not want to attend as it is quite some difficulty for me to organise alternative travel. Sorry but it would be just too much hassle given that I also need to work.

Since we don't have anyone on the waiting list, I'll keep you as someone attending unless and until the earlier of:
(a) we know the strike is not going to be cancelled in time for trains to run; or
(b) someone asks to attend

It may be that the strike is called off early enough for the trains still to run.

Evening all,

Please add me a as a reserve for this event. Luckily I'm on the tube and strikes won't affect me significantly

Apologies but even if the strikes don't go ahead, I won't be able to make this.

Hi Ben - with Zak dropping out you didn’t even go on to the reserves list, just straight into the tasting.

Christopher added to reserves.

PS unlikely to be able to bring a worthy and interesting bottle so can alleviate the possible overcrowding!

I have taken my eye off this ball. Is it still happening? Where? What placemats are needed? Should I take charge of a food order?

Yes it is still happening. It is happening at 67 Pall Mall (in the Lutyens Room). I don’t think we pre-order food at 67.

Space will be limited. Neil knows the room better than I do. Neil - could you give guidance as to whether there is enough room for placemats or would sticky labels to put on the glasses be better?

Alas, I have now seen the strike timetable and apparently my last train back from Waterloo is 5.45pm! Therefore, I will need to leave this tasting to those London domiciled tasters and those with overnight lodgings in Town.

There should be room for placemats. We're in the same room as the VE-Day tasting & they worked fine then.

They would prefer if we can pre-order as they're now quite busy. I'll co-ordinate this. Will publish the menu shortly...
