2017 Quinta da Fonte Souto Tinto

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

This is the wine from the estate acquired by the Symington Family last year (or was it 2018?) in the Alentejo. Vinified from the harvest of old vines.

This bottle really rewarded being opened and decanted 60 minutes before being drunk. I tasted a sample as I decanted and the extra time allowed the wine to come into equilibrium and show much better than when it was first opened and poured.

Lots of fruit on the nose and palate, generous acidity and a lovely perfume to the fruit on the palate, which really blossoms on the aftertaste and finish. This is still very young and will easily wait patiently in the cellar. I’d love to try this again in a couple of years. 88/100. Drunk 24-Jul-20. Decanted 1 hour.

It's a very nice wine full of juicy fruit. It went extremely well with a wild boar ragu and with the Wigmore cheese that followed the ragu.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
