@nac - offer much appreciated but I should be okay on this. (To put it another way, if I am wrong, I now know to whom to send the emergency WhatsApp.)

Unlike most deadlines, I have actually beaten my October 26 deadline by a week.

Which means I am free to travel in to London tomorrow afternoon, if I might be allowed to join you fine folk in partaking of a little Port.

Unfortunately I don't have any 1980 Vintage Port at home so I'm happy to adopt, perhaps the Gould Campbell if it is still available, or happy to chip in an appropriate amount towards the overall cost of dinner to compensate for my lack of bottle.

@AHB - We'd be delighted to see you. Please bring teddy bear as your plus 1. Happy for you to adopt the GC, still comfortably enough port to go round.

Edit - Just to say, I have already printed placemats, so I will print a duplicate of mine for you. and since Harry is now not going to be with us this evening, AHB will be HTWH.

Further edit - Please can you supply food order - direct is fine, they know you are coming. B&F confirm your food order received.

Warre and Sandeman decanted at 0700 this morning. All good (I think).

Burmester decanted at 0845. Unfortunately, the cork failed on extraction. Lots of fine sediment in the filter. A little closed on the nose, but a wonderful colour nonetheless. Hopefully it opens up in time!

Smith Woodhouse, Gould Campbell and Calem Foz all double decanted and looking good.

Have space for one more bottle in the basket if anyone has landed a duff bottle (and let's me know in the next 45 mins)

I am now officially excited about this tasting, which has unexpectedly been 20 months in the planning. I look forward to seeing you all this evening.

Running a pinch late. Should be there before 7 with any luck (fortunately not bringing bottles).

Morning all. Firstly a big thanks to George for organising last night. It's was great to try this large selection and witness some Port firsts, namely;

"Would you like some more Nacional?"
"No thank you."

As for the bill, the Davys bill is £56/ head but I forgot to add in the cost of the group adoption (likely £5/6 each). Once confirmed, I will send details. For those who paid last night, do not worry about this addition.

Would you like some more Nacional?
I expected the Symington wines to top the bill the bill last night, but in the opposite order to that which emerged.

Taylor was better than I expected, and the Fonseca, which seemed to be fading fifteen years ago, is still exactly the same.

My last encounter with the NN80 was of a very pale wine, and this one seemed a little darker, but for a Nacional to get the wooden spoon without being obviously faulty is a very poor show..
