Dublin - 6th March 08

AHB and I, and possibly one other, are meeting at the St Stephen's Green Hotel on the evening of 6th March to have dinner and a few glasses of port. The current line-up is Ramos Pinto 1994 and Vesuvio 1997.

If anyone happens to be in Dublin that evening they are welcome to join us and bring along a bottle.

No chance for me, but if either of you belong to a club with reciprocal arrangements with the St Stephens Green and Hibernian Club, then use them. It's as good as you get to Heaven on Earth.

Derek,

Does the Chesterfield British Legion has such reciprocal arrangements?

I'm not sure - but my Mum got a medal from the Pope last year for her services to the community and fund-raising - do you think that would get me in the door?

Even by my own slightly strange standards, my assertion was perhaps a little over the top. However, it is very civilised. No English stag parties, and no mega expensive expense account dishes or wines.

Gents,

please think about me as I will hold the southern front in Porto during your stay in Dublin. This sounds as if the portforum is now spread fairly wide over Europe, heh?

Alex: will you be in Munich March 31st by chance?

Unfortunately not - I will be in Mexico instead!

My next confirmed overnight stay in Munich is likely to be June 9, 10 and 11 although it is very likely that I will need to visit before that - but I may not need to stay overnight.

Now that would be fun - an Offline in Old Meheeco - ADV and Jay P could pop over the border on a couple of old Mules and we could all sit around a camp fire eating beans and drinking port. Blazing Saddles eat your heart out :P

Derek

PS: I believe it is good practice to fart to the right as you pass the decanter to the left on these occassions

See here

Didn't have the best of days yesterday through combination of Guinness, a bottle+ of VP, a head full of snot, a 1am finish, an 8am meeting and a delayed flight home :(

My excuse was that I had a meeting with the auditors the next day and then fell asleep at the airport.

But I've posted some thoughts now.

I did that in my meeting in Dublin, in the taxi, at the airport, on the flight home and in a traffic jam on the M1

You didn't fall asleep in your meeting.

Luckily, I had a room 2 floors down from the people I was working with so they couldn't see just how hard it was to work through the papers that they gave me to review and discuss. Two hours and 4 trips to Starbucks later and I was able to hold a coherent conversation.

Thank goodness I told them that I had a conference call at 8am and so had to reorganise our original meeting.

Thankfully, no. But it was close.

Nothing quite like enjoying yourself.

Now..... since you should not feel ropey after drinking decent stuff, is this age catching up with you?

OT&E,

Yes, I'm sure age had something to do with how Alex was feeling the next day.

For my part, I blame the tannins - this is yet another reason not to drink port that is too young
