It was wonderful to be able to try so many Messias Cachão Vintage Ports side by side. There is a real family resemblance running all the way through from 1960 to about 2003. The 1997 shows the family resemblance but with an added overlay of the 1997 baked / earthy tone.
The wines age gracefully and show a lovely elegance and delicacy while still being full of flavours. You don't see them very much in the UK, but they are delicious! We should drink more of them.
Thank you to Miguel and Tony for organizing the tasting. It was a privilege to be able to attend.
I will post my tasting notes on the wines over the next few days.

Agreed. They are very much of the Portuguese style — delicate, less primary fruit, ageing earlier — and lovely. And, of course, drinking more of them would be excellent.

Many thanks to Miguel and Tony for organising and providing such a comprehensive vertical. The first time a range of this extent has been opened together, as Miguel noted.
A real consistency across the ports from 1960 through to the mid '80s. Rich, elegant, fruit drying out a little, often oranges, and slight dryness.
As my voting showed, I was very impressed with the years outside general declaration years - many of these were lovely elegant and mature ports that are drinking superbly.

Well, this was a delightful tasting, and I learnt a lot. Primarily, Messias Cachão have a long history of making very tasty Ports many of which we were lucky enough to try. Softer and slightly sweeter than the style we are used to in the UK: extremely tasty, elegant and easy to drink.
The 1970 for me was the standout of the line up, but there was a strong showing from nearly all the others. Very well done indeed
