En magnum

In honour of the forthcoming nuptials of Prince Henry of Wales KCVO and Miss Rachel Meghan Markle, we gathered on Tuesday 15th May 2018 to drink ‘Port Fit for a (New) Duchess’, the theme being an echo of Port Fit for a Queen enjoyed on the occasion of Her Majesty’s reign exceeding that of Victoria.

D70, decanted 16:30. Dark red, 60% opaque. Full-on lovely. Big, Dow dryness, and very long.

And a magnum.

Deep red but slightly more evolved appearance than the Fonseca 1970 shown alongside; 80% opaque. Very little showing on the nose at first until some vigorous swirling releases some sweet fruit. Restrained entry with the fruit lurking in the background at first, but the fruit does move forward on the mid-palate where it becomes fragrant and lively, developing beautifully. The aftertaste is wonderful and long. A very interesting port that still needs more time to reach its peak. 90/100.
