In honour of the forthcoming nuptials of Prince Henry of Wales KCVO and Miss Rachel Meghan Markle, we gathered on Tuesday 15th May 2018 to drink ‘Port Fit for a (New) Duchess’, the theme being an echo of Port Fit for a Queen enjoyed on the occasion of Her Majesty’s reign exceeding that of Victoria.

F70, decanted 16:00. Dark dark red, 60% opaque. Very long and sweet, with big dark plums. I liked.

Dark cherry red in colour, looking quite young in tone; 80% opaque. Fresh fruit shows on the nose, rich and lively. The rich fruit flows onto the palate, full of dark cherries and the complex interplay of flavours from a rich fruit cake. The port brings multiple layers to the palate, layers which are complex and deep and which are backed up by more power than usually experienced in Fonseca's ports. The aftertaste is fabulous, rich dark cherries of an incredible length and intensity. This is a superb port that still shows a lot of structure and power with much promise for the future. 94/100.
