In honour of the forthcoming nuptials of Prince Henry of Wales KCVO and Miss Rachel Meghan Markle, we gathered on Tuesday 15th May 2018 to drink ‘Port Fit for a (New) Duchess’, the theme being an echo of Port Fit for a Queen enjoyed on the occasion of Her Majesty’s reign exceeding that of Victoria.

S70, decanted 23:00 night before. Brown, 30% opaque. Very dry and too old.

Very light in colour, a pale copper red; 20% opaque. Hollow at first on the nose, some coaxing brought a little juniper out of the glass, but on the palate this had a fine, thick texture and brought a light, dusty flavour of sweetened candied cherries. Hints of tannins showed up on the late palate and led smoothly into the sweet, lingering finish. A lovely and delicate version of this fine port. 86/100.
