In honour of the forthcoming nuptials of Prince Henry of Wales KCVO and Miss Rachel Meghan Markle, we gathered on Tuesday 15th May 2018 to drink ‘Port Fit for a (New) Duchess’, the theme being an echo of Port Fit for a Queen enjoyed on the occasion of Her Majesty’s reign exceeding that of Victoria.

D60, decanted 16:00. Red, 35% opaque. Nose very varnishy. Palate same.

Pale oxidised copper colour, looking very evolved; 30% opaque. A soapy redcurrant nose that is not pleasant at all. Smooth and soapy texture on entry but the flavours on the palate are much better, bringing lovely evolved fruit in generous quantities. The fruit is a little dry at times but has an interesting citrus bitterness to it. Lots of clementine shows on the good length finish. Sweeter (surprisingly for a Dow) and with less acidity than the other 1960 wines shown alongside this one at this tasting. 88/100.
