Came across this in PallMall, London.

Thats your flag, isn't it. It was Quebec House. Nearby are all sorts of Diplomatic Residencies, Canada House, South Africa House, etc,etc.

Quebec is an area, not a Country, why would it need it's own Diplomatic Residence?

I don't know how Luc will respond--with fightin' words or who knows what. Certainly it will be borderline violent. But I can assure you Quebec is indeed a nation, as recognized by its House of Commons at least. Why it would have such an edifice in England is beyond me, unless the British House of Commons also recognizes it as such.

To say the denizens of Quebec are a nationalistic bunch is an understatement, to the tune of saying Fonseca '66 is 'pretty good'. But, I may be preachin' to the choir here; you may just be tryin' to get Luc's goat.

At which I must laugh hysterically, and pray no transatlantic harm befall you...

The Québec Delegation opened Its offices in the year of my birth , 1962 .
You ask : Why the need for a Residence ?
Other than the cultural exchanges , Great-Britain is our 2nd largest trading partner .
Québec is a province (there are 9 others in Canada) .
Unfortunately the ROC (Rest Of Canada) will not allow Québec to speak at international gatherings !!
Two reasons for this :
- The Treaty of Paris in 1763
- Pierre Elliot Trudeau

It is nevertheless officially considered a 'Nation' though, is it not? On top of being considered as a province somewhat more alienated than the others, and for obvious reasons.

I always put Canada on a level with New Zealand. Slightly Colonial, reserved, natural beauty and not Americanised!

Now I hear this about Quebec and your marvelous Alcohol buying policies, I now realise...I Know Nothing!

Officialy the Canadian government recognised Québec as a nation in '07 .
But this was more of a political move than a good hearted gesture .
The present Can. gov. needs Québec in order to be re-elected .
If I judge the mood in the province correctly , the Can. gov. will be re-elected with a minority at best .

Alan , you're right in all aspects of your assumption , except Canada IS Americanised ( Québec is not !! )
Canadian culture ( does It exist ? ) is a mirror Image of the U.S. on a smaller scale . . .
