The theme appeals to my love of tradition. I may even have a bottle albeit in traditional terms I'm not sure it has reached maturity!

Count me in too please. It would a real shame to lose GC, as from my limited experience, it has always tasted well as a 'lesser tier' shipper. One of the things I like about port, and want to learn more about...is the personalities of the different port brands/producers. My concern is that the diverse types will be los,t and there will be the strong commercial brands left and lots of white labelled generic port for the supermarkets.
But on the Gould Campbell front... I should have a 1983 which I will confirm, but also happy to contribute or adopt.

Very articulately put, and I think reflective of what many here feel.
Derek, perhaps you can tell Simon why tradition is unimportant and the only significant thing is the market?
And while you're at it, maybe you can tell us about Father Christmas.

I'd very much like to participate. I have 80 and 85 handy, and some 70 in storage. I thought the 80 at the port walk was very tasty indeed.

I"m of the traditionalist persuasion but with the increasing number of SFE brands and the burgeoning BOB market, something had to give. Am I right in thinking that QH has already gone the same way? Anyhow certainly up for a vertical 'wake' . Can probably offer a '70.

I like the idea and count me in, but please can we select a date.
We're hoping to get Johnny over to the UK for the Vesuvio tasting on 24 Feb. It is unrealistic for us to expect him to also be able to come over again for us within a short period so three options occur to me:
(1) We ask Rupert to the Vesuvio tasting and Johnny to the Gould Campbell tasting
(2) We ask Johnny to the Vesuvio tasting and try to tie the Gould Campbell tasting date in with the dates of an event in London which the Symingtons might be attending (such as the BFT, when that date is announced). We can try to get a conditional commitment now in order to try to prevent our chosen director(s) diary(ies) from becoming committed to a trade promotion the night before the BFT (or other event).
(3) We schedule the Gould Campbell vertical to the back end of 2016 and hope that we can persuade Johnny to come over to the UK to two TPF offlines.
I have '63 (halves or bottles), '66 (in storage so will need lots of notice), '77 (in storage - bottles or magnums), '80 (in storage), '91, '94, '03.

Just to confirm... This is no longer going ahead on the 21st April as Daniel cannot attend, so will be rearranged for another date. There is now another thread for a tasting on the 21st April now.

Quick question. Mayson reports that Gould Campbell went to the Symingtons in 1970. Had GC previously been part of Graham? Or was that a separate deal in 1970?

I had always thought it was a separate deal, but now that you mention it, I haven't found anywhere online the entity that sold the brand to the Symingtons.
Tellingly, there is no Wikipedia for GC, no website for GC, and no acknowledgment that the brand even exists at several Symington establishments (e.g., Dow's Bomfim Lodge, etc).
The legacy of Garret Gould deserves a modern champion. A visionary and a risk taker. A person passionate about sharing the joy of vintage port with the world.

At a small gathering last night I found myself volunteering (being volunteered?) to take on the mantle of progressing this blessed GC vertical. So the first job is to select a date and so as October (2017) was mooted last night let's plump for Monday 9 October 2017 (at the B&F-subject to availability).
Second job is to ask for reconfirmations of attendance for those that originally signed up (who will receive priority )plus confirmations from anyone else still to show their hand. At the same time as the aforementioned please once again confirm what GC you have and would be willing to provide?
Am open to views but my suggestion is that we go as deep as practicable and up to (and including) 1994.
Third job is just to ask for some support from the Administrators (JDAW?) in tidying matters up (post and link-wise) since my capabilities are sorely limited in this regard.
