Nice! You were right, it's blue, but it's not from Norway.

That's one of my all time favorite Monty Python skits. Michael Palin and John Cleese. It was funny as hell!

On Friday I did a very Port thing, that multiple others have done multiple times, but it was my first time. Vintages 1996 and 1997.
What did I do?

You asked which you should open and were given the obvious answer and told to open both.

Do either you really believe that would have been my first time?
But the verb “open” is the correct action verb.

You drank the two Vesúvio vintages side-by-side.

Feb 2010,
Dec 2007.
No.

You had exploding corks on two halves, one from each year?

You tonged both bottles open. For some reason.

It's a trick question. There's nothing "very Port" that you haven't done.

Halves. {Quietly chokes.} I do not know what to say to this guess.
flash_uk wrote: ↑12:39 Mon 15 Dec 2025You tonged both bottles open. For some reason.
Would not be first time.

This is a family show. If others have done it multiple times, well, this isn’t
Mormon Wives, instead these things can be left unsaid.

Well, there was.
Alex has used a good word not used by anybody else.

You opened them audouze. Not sure that's a "very Port" thing, but a guess nonetheless.

Which I have done before.

Yes, but someone else must now guess before I guess again.

I did. What joy to find within the cardboard the clean wooden boxes, and within them not only six bottles, but the bin label too. Glenn’s question.

Not quite this, and anyway Glenn was quicker.

No.

Vesuvio 6-packs are a joy to open. I always ask to have them sent, except for 1994 because if I'd asked for all of those I'd have filled my study.
What is the oldest wine that I currently own?
HM awarded for oldest by type.

Sadly, no. 1900 is older than my oldest Colheita. And if I go by the origin of the name, then my oldest Colheita is not from a Portuguese house.

Oldest colheita: Kopke 1937
But you’ve written about old Madeira that you have a glass of every birthday. Now where is that post…

That would be the D'Oliveiras 1875 Malvasia Family Reserve. I just purchased 4 more bottles of that, but it is not my oldest.
The Kopke is incorrect, though an excellent and well-informed guess. This was the bottle that I was thinking of when I responded to Miguel.
But I must correct my earlier statement to Miguel - my oldest Colheita is actually an 1885 DR, followed by a 1906 Brunheda. The DR is labeled as simply Roncao without the year, but it is known to be an 1885 Colheita so that's why it slipped my mind earlier.
My oldest Vintage Port is a 1924 Graham.
My oldest
unopened * TWAIOA is a Mourao "100" unless I've forgotten something I have hidden.
My oldest White Port is a VVO from Brunheda, labeled only as "100+".
But my oldest wine is the 1834 Barbeito Malvasia that George guessed.
* I do have a small amount of an unknown Brunheda in a test tube that they think is probably around 200 years old, but that is open (and stoppered) and exists only so that I can uncork it and smell the wonderful aroma periodically.
