No, not an Hare. And by the way, no Haggis either.
Any more guesses?

To help you catch up. This is the current question:
I bought two half bottles on Friday. One was an LBV, but what was the other?

All other guesses so far were wrong (such as another bottle of port, Champagne, Sherry).

Any more guesses before I give a tiny clue?

Manorial rights etc etc. It's been seven days since the last post. Accordingly I ask you the following supplementary question (expecting that some here may be able to answer it rather quickly):

Why was my father a member of a sex club in Cambridge?

André: brandy.

Does it matter of the guesses are in metric or imperial?

If I remember correctly, your father was a civil servant in the health sector. So I guess he was a member of this club in his professional capacity, as a kind of liason officer to the health officials (perhaps organising medical check-ups in order to prevent the spread of VD in this sex club).

As to my question: no it was not brandy. It was wine. But from which region?

I'm sure there is some innocent explanation, like he has special requirements.

He was not a special liaison officer. He does not have any special requirements (well none that I know of).

Maybe he applied for membership not knowing that it was a sex club. Perhaps he thought it was a fitness club. :)

What kind of a Scot would refer to Buckie as Buckfast? One who has spent too much time with the Sassenachs I'll be bound. As an aside I had to phone Buckfast Abbey the other day and was treated to a mellow Irish voice and fur Elise was the holding music, very pleasant.

The wine; Setubal.

The sex club; because he liked messy fourways but no doubt told his son it was for 'research'.

1. Rioja.

2. Because his parents didn't give him "the talk"?

Yes.

Was it because there were no girls in the college (not, that Peterhouse is a "college", obviously)?

Peterhouse is, obviously, a college. It's still not your turn.

It's a college of Cambridge. Indeed it is the oldest one.
No.
Did I mention it was founded in 1287?

Wasn't there a glutton club at Cambridge where you could try anything, so was this a club for people who wanted to try anything in another sphere?

I bet it is something pedestrian like DNA sequencing, but I live in hope that Daniel's father does have a saucy past.

Wine guess; Australian muscat.

No. Think of sex. I mean, think of the word. (It was the 1960s.)

Made me laugh.

I am thinking about sex. Now what, do I have to make something up?

How about they were trying to get women into the college?

I see I don't have to guess any more for Daniel's question. As an aside, you simply have to in clude the word "sex" in a thread and people get interested.

All guesses to my question were false so far. Derek was closest with his Rioja guess as the wine region we're looking for is a red wine region and also almost on the same latitude as Rioja.

As someone who has spent the last few hours drinking too much(?) whisky for Burn's night, which may or may not be tonight or tomorrow, can I please feel superior somehow? I'm certainly too far [gone] to type much coherently; you wouldn't believe how much Android spell checker is helping right now... And, Bruichladdich 10yr laddie is a delicious revelation :-)
