I thought I'd leave it an extra couple of guesses first, however...
To recap:
PhilW wrote:While attending the recent Cockburn tasting, I was lucky to see something I had never seen before, but had wanted to see for a long time. What was it?
There is a small element of clue here as yet unexplored: I saw the bird at a location extremely close to the venue; the nature of this location would provide a clue.
djewesbury wrote:It was a sparrow.
Sailing dangerously close after your response to my final guess at your last question!
I had never seen the bird before, but it
is native to Britain.

I think Phill saw some kind of bird of prey.
My guess would be: Common Buzzard

While we are talking about birds, there is story I would like to share. In a local pub, I once saw a plate commemorating the 40th anniversary of the local bird breeding society, which is traditionally named "Vogelverein" (literarily "bird society"). But there was a linguistic variant on the plate. The Umlaut was used thereby spelling it "Vögelverein".
Now it got a double meaning, because you could also translate it as "shagging society". As teenagers we joked that we should become members of the "Vögelverein".

Not a bird of prey, though I love to see them fly.

I saw the bird while standing on the bridge at the entrance to the Japanese garden at the back of the grounds in which the hotel is set. The garden has many water pools, a stream and lots of trees, shrubs and other foliage.

It was a kingfisher, which flew along the stream and landed on the branch of a tree at head height about 25ft in front of me, stayed there for almost a minute before flying away with an amazing display of colour. Your question.

A fantastic sight, it is one of the only birds I see which makes my heart go fast.
A lovely sight to an unlovely one.
My wife has seemed a little jaded this weekend. To cheer her up I wandered into the bedroom this morning in an outfit and it worked. It consisted of 3 items. What were they?
I am unsure if I want all the items or just one.

Leather chaps, playboy bunny tail and one of those arrow-through-the-head things.
Kingfishers are indeed amazing. Saw one in Dublin about 20 years ago and haven't seen one since but I still remember it.

I was wearing a hat, but I think I need you to be a bit more specific. One of the other items is a pair. The final item is associated with being outside.
Actually now I come to think of it they are all associated with being outside.

I saw one this year making about four or five in total.
None of the items are unusual of themselves.

Mrs T says an apron, a feather duster and rubber gloves.

Sorry just realised that Mrs T (she of the newly wedded bliss, Huzzah) has identified gloves, but not yellow rubber. I only want one item but just a bit more description on the hat or gloves. I would not be missed in the last item.

Earlier this year my wife and I went to a non-London theatre to see a performance which it had not been possible to see in the UK for several years; it was just as good (phenomenally good, in fact) as we remembered from several years ago. What did we see?

It was not a play; however the performers certainly played their instruments with passion.
Music was played; No, I'm not telling you the name (yet).

Was it a performance by a re-formed group from the 1970s?
