No, no, no. You can't go substituting like that. The alternatives are for those that can't get hold of their rank or want to drink something of different quality - Six Grapes is just another ruby, albeit an expensive one. Warre's Warrior or something significantly better - Six Grapes isn't even a proper rank.

I'm told that Vesuvio had so much juice that year that they sold some under the Cruz brand just to get it out of the cellar so I'll just have to make do with my Vesuvio labelled bottle

Ben,

You will find Taylor LBV in most supermarkets for around £11. As your Rank is likely to change during the off-line perhaps you should look one out and have both bottles open so that you can do a comparison?

Out of curiousity... with so many great vintage ports, why are post counts into the 600's still LBVs and Tawnies?

Posted: 22:54 Tue 10 Jun 2008
by DRT
The rankings were the work of Admin (KillerB) and I think they were based upon the hope that this site will be around for a long time and therefore there was no need to progress to VP too quickly.

As the ranks increase the number of posts required to reach the next rank also increases which again reflects the expected longevity of the site.

Derek

PS: Personally I think that Vesuvio 94 has been given away cheaply at 3000 posts, but I will humbly and gladly accept the ranking and I have been awarded and drink it on 20th June

The intention was to graduate to VP and the first fully declared VP would be at 1000 posts. It's Cruz VP 1989, so the only way is up.

My placemats have become traditional for :tpf: tastings. Should I make a series of them for the anniversary tasting? Tell me what you’ll be drinking; how you would like to be named; where you will be geographically; flowers or stars or both or hatching or clipped text; and then I’ll cope.

As you offered it seems rude to deny you the task you seek!

Officially I will be Taylors LBV so that will feature! I may introduce a mystery guest so two options please.

Location: Sunny Reigate
Named: BMHR

May I have stars please!

Thank you.

Is there any way that this image can appear on my placemat to remind me that I shouldn't drink too much of the V94?

A bug in Illustrator made that more work than it should have been. Nonetheless, placemats for JDAW; BMHR (v2 with “2001†); DRT (v2 with mountain); and the Roots.

I shall decline the gracious offer of a tasting mat for fear of being ridiculed by my dear wife and children as I sit alone with my PC, my tasting mat, my lone glass and my decanter.

I shall struggle by with nothing more than my trusty tasting notes spreadsheet.

No, 'fraid not. I have now tried this on two different PCs thereby eliminating, or at least significantly reducing, the possibility that the problem is at this end.

Thank you.

Can I please buy a gift for my good friend AHB? Please make me a Tasting Mat that I can give to him to ensure he doesn't feel left out on Friday evening when we are all sitting being ridiculed by our significant others. It is probably best if it is just one page of A4 and not something that could be duplex printed in error.

Thanks

Derek

The Taylor 94 LBV is filtered. Most of the LBVs I've had have been young and pop-n-pour. Should it be decanted in advance? and for how long d'you think? (i'm hesitant to go over a couple hours with an lbv)

The Vargellas 88 half could be decanted anytime, and I found it reasonable at +8 last time. Happy to try longer if that would help it.
Others: please comment.

I have no experience of either of these wines but based on a hunch I would suggest 2 hours for the LBV and 4 hours for the V88.

You can't say 2 for the LBV, it was your LBV '94 reviews that convinced me ADH's recommendation of 24 was a good guide! :) Now I'm gonna be all confused.

If it is the Warre's Unfiltered LBV 1994 you are talking about then that is a completely different animal to the Taylor LBV 1994. The two main differences are that firstly the Warre's is unfiltered and therefore still maturing in the bottle and secondly the Warre's (IMHO) is made from much better juice than the mass produced Taylor which was made for immediate consumption upon release.
