The Taylor 1992 can be a truly staggering wine, and last time I looked £1800 a dozen retail - so you have done well there too.
I wholeheartedly agree, George. I think the 1992 Taylor's is the best Taylor's that I've had to date followed by the 1970. Granted I haven't tasted anything older than the 1963, but the 1992 is in a class by itself. It's both powerful and elegant. Maybe the 1994 will outclass it some day, but that's not the case right now.
Great to hear, will probably open a 92 on my upcoming birthday. Had the 94 earlier this year and was quite inpressed already!

Finally! I found a bottle of 1984 Vintage Port from Messias on Auction.
Hopefully I will be able to open it with my son when he is old enough and taste the harvest of 1984. Any one already had this vintage?

As someone born in 1984, I've had it twice (and I see it quite often on auction). I think it's a pretty decent VP, from a quite underwhelming year. Perfectly enjoyable, it just won't blow anyone's mind.
Honestly, don't take too long to drink it, I think it will only get worse from now on (I had it this year for my 40th, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't as good as the last one I opened, 5 years ago , but it could just be bottle variation).

Thats great info! thanks

My kid is not even 2 yo so I'll be sipping it on another occasion then

Looking forward to open it.
Ps- did you need to use port thongs or was the cork perfectly fine?

I just used an Ah So corkscrew (the ones with the two metal prongs). Didn't want to risk a cork implosion.

If you're looking for 1984 Ports in particular, keep an eye out for the Graham's Malvedos. It's quite nice.

You should open one. It's absolutely young, but it drinks very well after a long decant. I had one recently just to see where it was at and it was very nice.

Maybe I should. Had the Capela 2017 recently and was absolutely amazed by it. I've got some bids in an upcoming auction including another Niepoort 17 OWC, if I aquire it I will open one

I appear to have broken my New Year’s resolution to buy no Port in 2025.
Damn you Vintage Wine & Port! You have convinced me that I need more discounted Tawny Port in my life!! (Which, to be honest, I do. Good tawny is my go to cellar defender. The more relevant question is whether I need to own any cellar defenders.)
I now own 6 more bottles of São Leonardo tawny / white than I used to and an extra bottle of garrafeira for me.

I love the Sao Leonardo Ports, especially their aged whites. I d have 2 questions for you though, Alex.
1. What were the ages on the Ports.?
2. Did the Vintage Wine & Port employees break into your house and force you at gunpoint to order it?

Stuff I have bought recently …..
All this has come up in conversations I’ve had so I thought might be an idea to point people at them.
I really quite like this decanter, it’s got weight to it and feels nice when holding it the stopper also is a really good fit, it is hand made which probably accounts for why it’s as nice as it is.

- decantersm.jpg (26.04 KiB) Viewed 44330 times

I have a number of stands and I ran into this one, all the other ones I have have a rod that goes up the inside of the decanter so whilst this one is not cheap it is more stable and lets the decanter drain.

- standsm.jpg (23.54 KiB) Viewed 44330 times

and them both combined

I have also used these to rescue small amounts of port for evenings out when needed …. Glass jar with a plastic top
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0C9MKG19B – the only thing wrong with them is the seal on the plastic lid however this can be fixed very effectively with one of these sheets
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CT5XNWRV and a pair of scissors.
