Allan Morrison kept a very tidy cellar. Nice looking gaff too. 86 shillings a dozen

A reminder of the question.
We know that 86/- is too small, that 99/- is too big, and that 90/- “is very close”.jdaw1 wrote:We turn our attention to an auction, by Messrs. Christie Manson & Woods, on 7 July 1880, “Of The Cellar Of Wines Of Allan Morrison, Esq., Deceased, late of Hall Barn Park, near Beaconsfield; Comprising 70 Dozens of fine Sherry; Madeira; 50 Dozens of Port of the Vintages of 1834. 1842, 1843, and 1845; 110 Dozens of Claret, Château Lafite of 1858, 1864, and 1865; Château Latour of 1864, and 1874; Château Margaux of 1869 and 1870; Mouton Rothschild of 1864; Château Giscours of 1865; St. Estephe, &c.; 200 Dozens of Champagne, of 1865, 1868, 1870, and 1874; Ruinart, Heidsieck, Irroy, Perrier Jouet, Lanson père et fils, Farre, Bollinger, Perinet et fils, and Dagonet et fils; fine White and Red Burgundy; Hock; Sauterne; &c. Also, 80 Dozens of Otard’s Brandy, of 1875; and 50 Dozens of Otard’s Liqueur Brandy (in Champagne bottles); fine old Brandies of Justerini and Brooks; Whisky and Liqueurs”.
The Port was a motley collection of oddities.
Lot 40 was One Dozen and Six Bottles of Cooking Port, Hamilton and Grieve, which sold at 27/- per dozen (auction prices were then always per dozen).
That is your benchmark price.
Lots 38 and 39 totalled almost five Dozens of Port, “Emperor,” 1792, Hamilton and Grieve. To the nearest shilling, at what average per-dozen price did this 82-year-old port sell?

Simple dash.
Too big. The “very close” is being ignored. OK.

Lot 38 was three dozen, sold at 100/- per dozen. Lot 39 was one dozen and ten bottles, sold at 84/- per dozen. For an all-in average price of, to the nearest farthing, 93/11¼ per dozen.flash_uk wrote:94/-
Less than 3½× the price of the cooking port. I was disappointed.
Mike’s question.

I too loved South America and would recommend it to my friends, however I was robbed in one town in Ecuador. (I must take some responsibility here as I did lots of the things I shouldn't have and the men were quite sweet once I handed over what they wanted).
In which town was I robbed in Ecuador?

I was a bit freaked out by Bogota, but one man's finch is another man's nightingale as Andre is wont to observe. A nice use of the zummerset 'loverly' BTW, although I would have gone the whole hog and used a 'u' rather than an 'o'.CPR 1 wrote:I prefer Colombia personally, an amazing place and loverly people.
Well some of the things I did it would be unwise to discuss on a public forum. Oh alright then.DRT wrote:Could these "things" please be the subject of future questions?LGTrotter wrote:I must take some responsibility here as I did lots of the things I shouldn't have
