Port related Christmas pressies

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Today I received a Sainsbury mini port and cheese set (Cockburn Special Reserve and a few ounces of Wensleydale), Mayson's updated edition of Port and the Douro, a wine version of Trivial Pursuit, a bottle of Niepoort Secundum 2001 and a bottle of Niepoort 2007. Yummy!
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

A rather nice original print of a map published in 1833 under the "Superintendence" of the wonderfully-titled "Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge" (wiki entry, sadly no longer in existence)

Shows Oporto and its environs, together with a nice vista of the Douro from Torre da Maca.

Photo doesn't nearly do this justice, but gives an idea! (high quality image here)

Neither did I, thankfully - my relatives now realise that everything I could possibly want, port-wise - I have either got already, or would be far too expensive..

In any event, I get far more pleasure out of giving at this time of year, than I do from receiving.

My annual consumption of whisky amounts to about one bottle per annum (at most..). This Christmas, I gave two bottles and got one back, at which rate, my stock of malts is now reduced to about a 15yr supply..
I may be drunk, Miss, but in the morning I shall be sober and you will still be ugly - W.S. Churchill

Nice choice! Drinking really well now, but was not very impressive a couple of years ago and so the prices dropped a bit.

Couldn't agree more was really surprised by this over the year on how much it's opened up - he was a very happy man and a bottle drunk on boxing day

No specific port, or port-related presents, though my wife did encourage me to have some more of the (spectacularly good) Croft 70 on Boxing day morning, before a champagne breakfast :D and who am I to say no to that!
