Three interesting bottles. One because it will be terrible (C83 corked), NN63 for being fabulous, and the other for being a decent size of good port.

I'm hoping that the C83 is one of the "good" bottles, although all but one of the bottles that I've tasted have been corked. I must say that Sandeman did a GREAT job on the label of the double magnum. It isn't a paper label, but rather engraved in full color (drop shadows and all!) I was very impressed...

I'll post a picture later on this week. I should have some free time within the next day or two to snap a photo or two.

Here's the picture of the 1997 Sandeman. Unfortunately some of the detail was lost in this photo.

RonnieRoots wrote:Glenn, a merchant that may be able to help fill some gaps is winenose.nl. He has Niepoort, Romaneira, Osborne and Van Zeller in stock (as well as Burmester, but you have that already). I never ordered from him, but heard his service is good. It's a mail order company, so he'll probably ship to wherever you like. If I find anything else I'll let you know!

I ordered from WineNose at the end of last year - very well packed and shipping to London surprisingly reasonable. Though haven't yet tried any of the ports I ordered.

It might be pre-mature to post, but an OWC of 2007 Warre 1.5L's. It could fall through, but crossing my fingers.

Ocado has 25% off so a few Noval blacks and 04 LBVs duly purchased. The 2003 Noval VP for £47 is calling me as well.

A few amusing items, but most remarkably a Martinez 1955 LBV - noted as such on the label, and bottled in 1964...

Possibly, but the bottle has a proper original label bearing the words 'LATE BOTTLED VINTAGE' - the earliest example I've seen..

It would also be interesting to see if they bottled any other of their Ports so late or whether this was a one-off. It must have been an extremely dark wine to tolerate 9 years in a barrel before bottling, but then I suppose 1955 was as good a year as any for making one. Was this UK or Oporto bottled?

Bottled in 1964 by Robert James, Son & Co. Ltd of 15 Grape St, London WC2..

..still has quite a decent colour for its age!

All of which reinforces my first guess that this is a normal Martinez 1955 that was forgotten about until 1964...A fun tasting would be to try it against another English and and Oporto bottled normal Martinez 1955!
