I am looking to buy a bottle of Quinta do Noval Nacional 1931.
Do you know anyone who owns one and would like to sell it?

Just to manage expectations, Alex, are you aware that the last bottle sold (that we have seen) was by Vintage Wine & Port and it sold for £22,950 in March 2024.

These bottles don't come up very often and will be eye-wateringly expensive!

As a cheaper alternative, very great but not quite as great, there is a book (author: me), pp334–342 of which detail all that is known about N31 and NN31.

The VW&P prices don't always reflect the true value of a given Port; in fact they often distort prices. I would imagine that one could be found at a low five figure sum. I can say with absolute conviction that there won't be many of us paying a surcharge at the next '31 tasting!

I think that it will be closer to Alex figure, as that bottle wasn't on the market for that long. it did have great provenance.

Yes and they are selling Dows 1970 at £159 and people will buy at that price but if you shop around you will get it cheaper and you will get it for less than half that price at auction. So I suppose what I am saying is yes you can pay £25000 if you need it now but you will probably get it for a lot less if you are patient.

I generally agree with the "take your time to look round and you'll find it cheaper" principle for items that are frequently available - even more so when readily available such as your Dow 1970 example, and especially where demand fluctuates - but for ultra-rare items I'm less sure; when infrequent enough, sometimes the price goes up each time they are available (subject to condition), whether due to inflation and/or increasing scarcity etc. I suspect good-condition NN31 may now be in this ultra-rare camp.
