Anything to do with Port.

2024 - did you buy any?

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

George posted his thought on his tasting of the 2024 vintage and mentioned, in passing, a couple of shippers he'd purchased.

I thought it might be interesting to have a thread where we discuss and record the wines we purchase from this vintage. While the better known names are quite pricey, there are some bargains on offer if the quality is up at the desired levels.

I thought I'd start. I bought very little. I bought:
  • Fonseca in halves - to drink over the next 2-3 years
  • Vesuvio in bottles - to keep the complete vertical going
I resisted the temptation to buy any of the single vineyard lotes such as Capela, Stone Terraces or Nacional on the basis that I'll be dead before they're ready and that neither of my children are that much into Port (yet?).
Top 2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

2026: DR Very Old White, Graham Stone Terraces 2011, Quevedo Branco 1986 b.2026

Well if either (or both) want to inherit the business (and extensive cellar) they had better get their act together soon

In addition to the aforementioned 24 halves of Dow and 12 halves of Warre, I also have acquired 4 halves, 2 bottles and 1 magnum of Niepoort.

I'd like to have access to halves but I haven't seen them in the Portuguese market yet. I'll probably buy some 75cL bottles from SFE and then some smaller producers, like Val da Figueira or Churchill's. Then I'll be on the lookout for good deals that find their way to me, but this is what I have planned. I'd like to get my hands on as many as I can, the vintage really was fantastic.

I haven't yet - I would love to try some but didn't get the chance to get to any of the tastings. I *might* get a half case of the Quevedo as it's a more budget friendly option but not sure I would want to commit at this point.

If I had the money I'd be in for the Fonseca and the Warre.
