NV Porto dos Santos Tawny Reserve

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Porto dos Santos Tawny Reserve NV. Popped and poured at cellar temperature. T-stopper, no bottling date but probably within the last 2 years. Deep brick red in colour, 90% opaque. Spicy on the nose, menthol and red peppercorn. Much more balanced on the palate, still plenty of tannins in the wine but the generous fruit has rounded edges. Ripe dried berries and cherries, with some of the menthol heat emerging on the aftertaste. The menthol subsides to a persistent aniseed, together with a long and generous finish of dried red fruit. As good as some 10 year old tawnies, this is a lovely house Port.  87/100. Drunk 19-Jul-2024.
Top 2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

2026: DR Very Old White, Graham Stone Terraces 2011, Quevedo Branco 1986 b.2026
