2018 Porto dos Santos LBV

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

What a lovely nose, fresh flowers and fruits of the forest - so many berries crammed into a glass! Sweet and smooth in texture but a sudden harshness to the core of fruit in the wine. Big tannins grab hold and don't relent giving the wine an extraordinary and unexpected dimension. What a fabulous finish. I would love to try this again after 5 years in the cellar. My score: 95/100; awarded a silver medal and 93 points in the 2024 DWWA.
Top 2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

2026: DR Very Old White, Graham Stone Terraces 2011, Quevedo Branco 1986 b.2026
