Hello from sunny Gisborne Vic

Post by morgs »

Hi all,

I've always been a port fan but never had much to talk about. A friend donated a box of alcohol this week after cleaning out his mothers house and I ended up with a few older ports among the collection:

- Chateau Yaldara 10yo Liqueur Port - seems to be from ~1984
- Strathkellar Vinyard Old Tawny - no idea on the age
- Doctors Very Old Tawny Port - "blended on 1947 Shiraz base"
- Sepelt Para Liqueur Port - bottling number 111, probably 80's
- Choir of Ormond College European Concert Tour 1987 Barossa Valley 6yo Tawny - :) probably didn't win any awards

Anyway, I'll work my way through them and hopefully they'll still be drinkable,

cheers

Hi morgs, and welcome to the Port Forum. Most of us are based in Europe and the US so we have very little exposure to the Australian fortifieds you mention. The only wines I tend to see in the UK are the Penfold’s Tawnies and the Rutherglen muscats.

As and when you drink your box, do share with us what you think.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
