Leo XIV

Post by jdaw1 »

There is a new Pope, and Portugal isa Catholic country. And, indeed, Portugal is especially blessed. Behold, from Wikipedia’s List of popes, recent Popes’ years of birth.

1955 Leo XIV
1936 Francis
1927 Benedict XVI
1920 John Paul II
1912 John Paul I
1897 Paul VI
1881 John XXIII

What might Port people notice about almost all of these years?

Well my knee jerk reply would be: They're all older than me...the last one, barely. Absent that, if I'm not mistaken, they're all generally declared years?

Popes must be born in a year declared by Graham’s.

Were you suggesting a tasting to which we would invite the Archbishop of Westminster?

Well, seeing as it might be tricky to lay hands on G1881 and G1897, I suppose it would be an excuse for another '55 horizontal. Though at 79 years of age, not sure he would be up for a litre of port.

Wonder if he does actually know the Bishop of Norwich?

To be fair, that was the previous Bishop of Norwich - the Right Reverend Graham James, not the current Bishop of Norwich - the Right Reverend Graham Usher. Given his background I suspect the latter might also be a "terribly good chap", but I have no knowledge of whether he enjoys port; however there is a strong possibility that he might not be in the role for much longer.

I do love the way these conversations spiral out of control.
