To record tasting notes and thoughts on fortified wines we might try which do not come from the demarcated region of the Douro Valley

NV Quady Starboard Batch 88

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Starboard batch 88, a half bottle filled about 20 years ago. Sealed with a t-stopper, made from Tinta Roriz, Tinta Cão and Tinta Amarela. Imported by Cabot Cellars, Orchard House, Nailsea, Bristol, BS19 1JD. Deep orange in colour with a hint of cherry in the tone; 40% opaque. Mild blueberry and white cherry on the nose. Gentle and smooth in the palate, canned fruit in light syrup with a core of clementine building beautifully. Just the right amount of acidity on the palate, highlighting the clementine. The clementine dominates and persists on the long finish. Delicious, but not Port. 88/100. Tasted 30-Jan-25.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
