First half of bottle drunk between 07 November and 11 November 2024. Broadly consistent with three other bottles consumed over the last 4 years (albeit I do think a few years in bottle has been of benefit when compared to my first tasting of the 2020 bottling in June 2020). Typically I have found it best on days 3-5 but I don't see a dramatic fall-off in days 6-12. Sold in Cayman for approx GBP 130 (which actually seems reasonably competitive with some of the UK pricing I am seeing).
Day 1: awkward and unapproachable. Hot, acidic, sour, and generally difficult.
Day 2: Better but inferior to day 3-4.
Day 3-4: Nutty citrusey nose, surprisingly and wonderfully clean / pure but with a touch of attractive volatility. Madeira-esque acidity and bitter orange bite, power and oomph through finish with a long dry peppery and zesty aftertaste that tickles the tongue for quite a while. Both excellent and interesting but a micro-sip goes a long way and one glass is enough for me. Ok two glasses.
Though pricey, I've come back to this bottle a number of times and never feel hard done by (in terms of cost) as I get a week or more of excellent sipping each time. For my personal taste though, not sure this style of port will ever excite me in a way that a 70s VP firing on all cylinders does (VV and others of that ilk excepted).
