Launch of Quinta do Noval 50YO Tawny

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

I’ve just received a press release announcement that Quinta do Noval are releasing a 50YO Tawny.

There is a dedicated website which can be found here.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

and now for sale at Berrys

Quinta do Noval 50 Year Old Tawny Port
£320 per single bottle in bond
“This old Tawny displays a deep golden-amber-green hue with rich mahogany highlights. The bouquet is exceptionally refined, revealing complex aromas of dried fruits, roasted almonds, and subtle hints of spice, which underscore its distinguished character. On the palate, it is incredibly velvety and concentrated, with layers of flavour that reflect its age and maturity. The wine concludes with a long, sophisticated finish that lingers gracefully, showcasing its remarkable structure and finesse.”

And so it goes. £320 per bottle while - not that long ago - I could easily find the Noval 40 Year Old in the US for $125. And the US is usually more expensive than the UK for Port.

That would be $416 U.S. That's a ridiculously stupid price.

I am sure they know their market, but their market is not us.

Noval is consistently one of the most expensive tawny producers so that price doesn’t surprise me.

IMO, like the 40’s, there won’t be a lot of them sold when compared to 10/20/30’s. Your big companies maybe do one bottling run every couple years or so for 40’s. Depending on demand of course. So I’d guess once this initial release hype settles down, that time span would be even more for 50’s.
