Last weekend, I had the opportunity to serve 110 Port Wine Cocktails. I thought the winner of our 3 options would be the famous Portonic, but guess what?
I also introduced a Espresso Mar-Tawny, and that was a winner! Not sure if you guys like to mix up your (lesser quality) port wines, but I do and if you want - here is the recipe for the Mar-Tawny:
- Use a cocktail shaker with the Hawthorne strainer.
Add 1/2 ice cubes into the shaker
Make 1 shot of Espresso, poor it into the shaker. Now add 2 shots of Coffee Liqueur from any brand (I ended up using 3 different types and they all tasted almost the same - Kuyper / Kahlua / Tia Maria), 2 shots of Tawny Port Wine and Firmly shake.
Now poor into a martini glass (wine glass will go well too) and poor the whole content with the strainer so the ice stays in the shaker, and the foam layer is perfectly poured on the drink. Now add 3 beans of coffee on the top of the glass for decoration and some extra aroma.
1 shot espresso
2 ice cubes
2 shots of tawny port wine
2 shots of coffee liqueur
3 coffee beans.
Highly recommended cocktail! thank me later
