To record tasting notes and thoughts on fortified wines we might try which do not come from the demarcated region of the Douro Valley

2009 Villa Oeiras Colheita Tinto

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

2009 Villa Oeiras Colheita Tinto, Carcavelos. Dark orange colour, 30% opaque. A good swirl coaxes some sweet orange marmalade out of the glass. Beautifully balanced on the palate, complex with layers of flavour drifting in and out of focus. The orange is delightful, the balance impressive and the tannins show on the aftertaste…and then an astonishing finishing kicks in which amplifies all the flavours on the palate. Long, flavoursome and impressively rich orange marmalade just keeps on going. A very, very good fortified wine. 94/100. Tasted 10-Mar-24
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
