1994 Quevedo Colheita (bottled 2022)

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

1994 colheita aged in 4,000 litre tonel, made by Oscar Quevedo Snr. Bottled in 2022 in 9cl bottles for the advent calendar. Deep brick-red colour, intense pigment with a narrow rim. Lovely nutty nose, but a little subdued. Great structure on the palate; dried red cherries and dried vine fruit with a big tannic grip. A wonderful explosion of fruit flavours on the aftertaste, with some generous eucalyptus heat from the acidity in the wine, which changes to a lingering warm yet flavoursome aniseed. Powerful and a little rough, this needs more time to get better balanced but will easily be an impressive wine when it's 100 years old. 89/100. Drunk 06-Feb-23. Decanted ½ hour.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
