2002 Blandy Sercial

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Bottled in 2016 in a 50cl bottle. Sercial is normally a little too dry and a little overly acidic for my palate but today I fancied something bold and assertive and this is just hitting the spot. Iodine and sea spray on the nose, but on the palate the wine has a wonderful baked golden raisin fruit and a packed punch of acidity. Flavoursome and mineral, the wine holds on the palate with wonderful poise and rewards a little patience to allow the flavours to develop. The aftertaste is citrus oil, lemon and lime and grapefruit all rolling in to one; bitter-sweet yet full of fruit and with a fabulous length. What a great choice for a wine to sip while finishing off the last remnants of the day's work before heading out to potter in the garden for half an hour. 92/100. Drunk 27-Mar-23. Pop 'n' pour.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
