1900 Shortridge & Laughton Moscatel

To record tasting notes and thoughts on fortified wines we might try which do not come from the demarcated region of the Douro Valley

1900 Shortridge & Laughton Moscatel

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Bottled in the 1980s. All of S&L's wines were shipped around the Cape of Good Hope, they were the last of the Madeira producers to do this. When they closed, d'Oliveira bought their stocks. Opened 21 days before the tasting. Generous iodine scent; sweet on the palate yet full of acidity giving a great balance. Lovely texture to the wine. 93/100. Decanted 15-Dec-22. Decanted 21 days.
Top Ports in 2022: Quinta do Noval Nacional 1931. I have never drunk such a wonderful bottle of Port. I cried with joy.

2023: Fonseca 1966. There are not many better Ports.
