NV Encostas de Provezende Quinta dos Espinheiros White

Post by JacobH »

I bought this from this producer’s shop back in 2014 in an unlabled bottle with a t-cork. There was no selo.

Deep amber in the middle. Fading to a light straw. Maybe even a touch of green. Subdued nose. Quite floral and fresh: elderflowers predominate. In the mouth, it is more of the same. It reminds me of elderflower cordial! I think it has quite a heavy amount of sugar by it wears it lightly: a sensation of icing sugar rather than anything else. The acidity is mild, more oranges than lemons. The aftertaste is of modest intensity but long. This is a finely balanced white Port in a style which is quite unusual. I would love to have some more.

* A Note on Ratings

My rating system attempts to answer the question “is this a good Port?” one of three ways: N—No; P—Possibly; or C—Certainly. Ports generally are weighted slightly by their category. Therefore, a Ruby Port might receive a C rating for Certainly good which it might not were it to be a Vintage Port. I sometimes modify my rating with a plus or minus indicating that the Port is better or worse than might be expected for this category.
