2004 Croft LBV

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Croft 2004 LBV, bottled 2009 in half bottle. Purchased from Tesco Wokingham in December 2009 for £3.99 .

Rich red, the colour of fresh cherry juice, 60% opaque. Pleasant, if muted, nose of sweet cherry compote. Lovely balanced entry, light cherry at first but with good backing acidity and slightly green, firm tannins. The fruit adequately balances the structure although the acidity leaves the fruit feeling a little bitter. Lots of acidity on the aftertaste, good black chocolate tannins give a firm grip while the black cherry fruit s fragrant and enjoyable. A light but punchy mature LBV, surprisingly benefitting from its 12 years of bottle age. 87/100. Tasted 27-Feb-22. Decanted ½ hour.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
