1955 Mackenzie
Bottle was base of neck; cork was in good condition but was unbranded but identity of the bottle was clear from the label. Double decanted. Deep red colour, mature appearance, 60% opaque. Sweet candied cherry on the nose. A lovely cherry entry, nicely structured with a great fragrance to the fruit. Vibrant plum mid-palate, rich and figgy aftertaste with a long dried fig finish. Such a lovely wine, far more harmonious and integrated than the monolithic experiences of 4-5 years ago. So much improved that this was my second place in the wine of the night choice. 94/100. Drunk 10-May-21. Decanted 7½ hours.
