1980 Dow
A bottle sourced from Farr Vintners in April 2008. Deep and dark, looking like black cherry juice capable of staining anything it touches a dark purple colour. Fresh black cherry spiced with mint on the nose, lovely. Big fruit on the palate, lots of black cherry and big black chocolate tannins. Sweet but with a fresh green apple acidity. A big, blockbuster palate. Black chocolate and mint aftertaste, leads to a long finish, full of fruit and cocoa. 91/100. Drunk 24-Mar-21. Decanted 6½ hours.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.
2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

Sounds lovely… but would it benefit from 5-10-20 years of further storing?

Re: 1980 Dow
I sometimes think that by the time the Dow 1980 reaches full maturity in about 2080, every last bottle of it will have been drunk!

I think it will improve with more time in the cellar, but it’s a much nicer drink today than 10 years ago.
