Tuesday 28 January - Blind Bottles at B&F

Post by nac »

IDJ, MPW and NAC met in B&F Green Room to sample (blind):
1985 Taylor
1977 Fonseca
1997 Gould Campbell

Scoring - 1st T85 (8pts), 2nd GC97 (6pts), 3rd F77 (4pts)

Thought GC97 was vey good given relative youth, and equally surprised by aged character of T85 and lack of development of F77.

The voting is interesting; nobody could accuse anyone present of voting for their own wine - you all preferred someone else's (statistically fairly probable) but also almost everyone thought their bottle was the worst present (much less probable)!

Yes - I voted last and we did note that I could have voted in a pattern that gave all bottles 6 points!

This was a nice tasting and I came within a whisker of guessing the GC97 rather than the GC94 as maybe for the first time ever I immediately recognised a flavour profile (dark chocolate cherry); it's only taken me over 10 years! Interesting to see the evolution of the T85 which is going to be worth following over the next decade and which I will be looking to secure more of.

On the slightly negative side the truffle Mac and cheese was very washed out. :o
